Early Medeival cast copper alloy vessel escutcheon or mount. It is circular in plan, with the upper surface decorated with a cast design of a central boss surrounded by two concentric rings and a design of seven running spirals. The raised border is damaged, however the remains of a cast 'beaded' ring is still visible. There is no obvious means of attachment for the piece, however there is a small circular scar on the reverse, which could be all that remains of the fittings. The reverse is plain and undecroated and the edge is damaged. It is 34.33mm in diameter, 4.47mm thick and weighs 15.55 grams. It has a dark brown patina with traces of gilding in the recessed areas.
