A copper-alloy mount of probable Medieval date.
The head of the mount is rectangular in plan and of thin section. The upper surface bears a symmetrical pattern of moulded spirals, the recessed areas containing possible traces of a dark blue enamel infill, the raised areas having been gilded. At the centre of the reverse is an integral rivet of sub-rectangular section. This rivet has been bent downwards and its point hammered flat.
The mount measures 18.6mm long, 6.4mm wide and 1.3mm thick (6.3mm including the rivet). The weight is 1.44g.
The form of this mount suggests it is a horse harness decoration (see Ashley 2002: 15 for similar).
