A cast copper-alloy strap fitting: hooked mount. The body of the mount is sub-oval in plan with a double collar at the base and an integral semi-circular sectioned hook which leads from the collar. Suspended from the collar is a flat trefoil with three sub-circular openwork holes, one in each leaf of the trefoil. Protruding from the upper edge ofthe mount body is an inegral knop which has a rivet hole which is filled by the remains of an iron rivet. The mount is domed in profile, and the body on the reverse is hollow. Across the body there is a thin copper alloy plate riveted on it behind the collars. The surface ofthe mount has a mottled mid green patina, and the plate on the reverse has small patches of red copper corrosion. The mount measures 65.28mm long, 22.67mm wide and 12.54mm thick across the loop. The weight is 18g.
The mount may have been to suspend a sword from a baldrick and probably dates to the 17th century
