MOUNT

Unique ID: YORYM-82DC90

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper alloy strap mount. The mount is rectangular in shape with cut out trefoil terminals. The central rectangle contains some incised triangles in a rectangular shape. These markings help date the object to probably the late 14th Century. Five dome headed rivets remain in situ on the front surface. One sits in the centre, while the other two flank the trefoil terminals. On the reverse of the mount the remains of the leather to which this mount was once mounted, can clearly be seen. This leather is disintegrating. On the reverse of the dome headed rivets are five corresponding washers. Each one is made out of a sheet copper alloy rove. These roves also point to the late 14th Century date.
The metal is a light brownish-green colour and the surface is slightly pitted.
