A slightly corroded, complete post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount (c. 17th century). On the lower surface is a pair of spikes bent in the same direction, one of which extends beyond the body of the fitting. The mount is sub-oval in form with a broadly oval body with a pointed oval protrusion at each narrow end. The lugs are situated at the junctions of these protrusions with the main body. The visible surface, when fitted to a strap, has punched semi-circular patterns in three rows. The object has corroded to a coppery red-brown colour with overlying green deposits; traces of gilt survive within the crescentic punches. Similar mounts can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 35; fig. 20).
