An incomplete cast copper-alloy disc brooch of Roman date. It is missing the pin, part of the pin lug and catchplate due to old breaks. The brooch is flat, circular in frm and with four evenly spaced projecting rectangular knops positioned at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. The knop at the top (12 o'clock) has a central circular perforation. At the centre of the disc is a projecting cylindrical knop with central circular recess containing red enamel. Surrounding the central knop is openwork decoration comprising four kidney shaped perforations. The areas of the front face surrounding the perforations and central knop are recessed and contain the remains of dark blue enamel, much of which is now incomplete due to old breaks. The back face is flat and undecorated. It has an integrally cast double pin lug at the top, half of which is incomplete due to old breaks, that has a circular aperture enabling the now missing pin to hing. At the bottom of the back face positioned behind the bottom projecting knop is an integral catchplate that is triangular in form and missing its outer edge due to old breaks. The entire brooch measures 34.91mm in length (including knops), 32.95mm in width (including knops), 28.73mm in diameter, 6.13mm in thickness (including central knop, 2.26mm excluding knop), and weighs 7.64g.

This is a Roman disc brooch identical to an example published by Hattatt (1989: no. 538). It is of 2nd century AD date, c.100-200 AD.
