A corroded wrought iron nail of probable post-medieval date. The very irregular sub-rectangular head is slightly domed. It measures 48.2mm by 38.3mm, and is 8.2mm thick. The spike is rectangular in cross-section and tapers rapidly to a point, it is 29.1mm long. The artefact weighs 72.5g. The shortness of the spike may suggest that rather than nailing two things together this was a decorative/reinforcing stud for something like a door or wheel.
