A fragment of a Roman brooch; headstud type probably, dating from 75 - 200 AD. Only the head of the brooch survives. It is 11.1mm long, 18.8mm wide and 8.9mm thick. It weighs 4.52gm. There is a tubular housing for the copper alloy axis bar, which would have extended into a head loop. A tiny fragment of the copper alloy hinged pin survives. There is a vertical ridge on the front of the brooch; a pseudo forward hook. The front of the wings are decorated with three lozenge shaped cells of blue enamel between vertical grooves on each wing.
