A cast, copper alloy artefact, probably a clasp or locking mechanism from a box, casket, chest or other piece of furniture. It consists of a flat bar of rectangular section. One end of the bar is bent, up then down, resulting in a V-shaped hole under the bar. This appears to be intentional. At the other end of the bar are two extensions. A short, circular shaft ending in a globular knob protrudes from the upper side of the bar; on the opposite side of the bar is a rectangular loop of metal. The bent end of the bar is definitely broken, and the other end may be too. The artefact has a light green patina. It is 43.3mm long, 7.7mm wide and 24.5mm thick. It weighs 9.84gm. It is likely that the object is part of a catch mechanism. Compare SWYOR-DF7E04 which is similar but larger. It is probably medieval in date.
