An incomplete and bent Roman (AD 50-150) Colchester derivative brooch with hinge mechanism, missing the shank of the pin and the curl of the catchplate. It measures 49.40mm in bent length and weighs 7.81g. It would have originally measured c.70mm long.
The tubular wings span 23.86mm and one end has a tiny groove flanking the edge. The other has iron corrosion around it. The pin head is in place and still swivels around the (iron) axis bar.
The bow is plain and oval in cross-section where it extends from the wings (6.21x4.40mm). This narrows to 2.69x3.59mm just above where the catchplate extends to the rear. The catchplate is 12.66mm deep and the foot of the bow 1.25mm wide.
