A cast copper alloy buckle plate. The plate is sub-rectangular in plan, with one narrow edge having a central rectangular slot and off-set sides. The slot was to allow the pin to move on the strap bar. This narrow edge is an incomplete fold with a narrowed rectangular plate on the reverse. This plate has a rivet hole in two corners opposite the fold and one in the centre. This matches three rivet holes on the upper place. The upper place is decorated with a zig-zag border. The surface of the plates are slightly abraded, and has a well developed shiny dark green patina. The plate measures 36.98mm long and 19.01mm wide. It weighs 4.6g.
The plate probably dates to the Medieval period, perhaps the 13th to 14th centuries.
