The setting contains remains, possibly of the original stone or adhesive? 'The dogtooth border was popular for ring settings over a long period in the later 17th and 18th centuries. Without any more diagnostic features it is not possible to confirm that this is more than 300 years old. ' BM Curator Judy Rudoe The ring did not therefore constitute Treasure.

The ring can not be securely dated to pre-1708 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
