Early Roman (40-100) damaged and incomplete cast copper alloy colchester derivative brooch. The damaged wings are slightly curved in profile and are decorated with vertical mouldings. The spring mechanism and attachements are completely missing. The bow is slightly curved and has an oval cross section. A trace of a central moulding is visible at the top of the bow. The majority of the bow is damaged and corroded; the foot is broken and the catchplate has not survived.
The brooch is 37.49mm long, 17.70mm wide across the wings, 7.12mm wide, 6.27mm thick at the top of the bow, tapering to 4.50mm wide, 3.63mm thick at the broken foot end. It weighs 6.69 grams.
