A gilded copper alloy medieval pendant complete with its suspension mount.
The pendant is 18.15mm long and takes the form of an animal head, perhaps intended as a lion, which is upside down in relation to the mount. The head has prominent pointed ears. Details of the ears, eyebrows, eyes and nose are delineated by single lines. The body of the pendant is decorated with transverse lines.
The forked suspension mount is 36mm long and has a quatrefoil terminal decorated with crossing lines and a thick integral rivet for attachment to a leather strap. The lower part has been bent back to clutch the thin iron bar on which the pendant hangs. A date in the 12th or early 13th century seems most likely.
