A medieval lead ampulla, with side lugs, one face with a scallop shell of Spencer's (1990) type II, and on the other face an R beneath a lily in a lily pot (cf. Spencer 1980, 16, no.39). The R may stand for the Lady Richelde of Fervaques, the "founder" of the shrine at Walsingham. The lily symbolises the Virgin's purity and the scallop shell represents pilgrimage. The object dates from the 15th-early 16th century.
