A copper alloy sheet rivet of medieval date. The rivet is sub-rectangular in form and has been folded in on itself towards the centre before being folded back. The rivet would have been used to hold repairs to a vessel in place.
The metal is a mid brownish-yellow colour and is worn with patches of corrosion over its surface. The rivet is 16mm long, 10.6mm wide, 1.4mm thick and weighs 0.6g.
Vessel repairs such as this have been found on sheet metal vessels dating from the early 12th to late 15th/mid 16th century.
A similar example can be seen in: HAMP-9C8243 and in Egan, p.101, fig 87a.
