A copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175 AD. The pin and most of the catch plate are missing. There is a loop behind the head to hold the missing pin mechanism. The acanthus button continues right round the bow and has a double collar above and below. There is a thick discoidal foot which does not have a collar. The brooch has a brown patina missing in places revealing bright green corrosion. It is 37.3mm long, 12.3mm wide and 19.6mm thick. It weighs 6.7gm. For reference see Hattatt 2000.
