A Roman copper alloy coin, a contemporary copy of a follis of Diocletian dated AD 296-303 (c.f. RIC VI, p. 182, no. 172a). Reverse: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI. Mint: Trier.

Obverse: Laureate and cuirassed bust right
Obverse inscription: IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P F A (M is in a crude style and there is no AVG)
Reverse: Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chlamys over left shoulder, right hand holding patera, left hand holding cornucopia
Reverse inscription: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI
Mint mark: A/Gamma//A or II TR
Die axis measurement: 6.00

Dimensions: diameter: 25.34mm; weight: 7.91g.

Notes:

This copy conflates two issues. The mintmark is largely based on the A Gamma//TR issue of c. 296-7 (c.f. RIC VI, p. 182, no. 172a). However, the additional A or II in front of the TR leads one to issues from c. 300 to 302-3 (RIC VI, pp. 190-8).
