A cast copper alloy seal matrix. The matrix is circular and has a tapering hexagonally faceted handle rising to a flattened and rounded suspension loop with a circular aperture. The loop is narrowed from the body of the handle.. The central motif is a beast, probably a lion, in profile walking right (on the impression). The forequarters are slightly emphasised, perhaps indicating a mane; the ears are pricked and the jaws are open. All four feet are visible, and the foreleg furthest from the viewer (the lion's front left leg on the impression) is raised, interrupting the beaded border around the central motif. On the lion's back is a bird of prey on its back. The bird has dotted chest feathers, long wing feathers and a curled tail; one foot is visible. Its hooked beak is biting the ear of the animal. The inscription is in French and reads *IE VOIS A MANGER (I see [something] to eat). The N is reverse-barred. A second beaded border runs around the outside of the die. Dimensions: 19.11 mm tall, 18.49 mm die diameter. Weight: 6.81 g

Anonymous seal matrices such as this one were most popular in the 14th century.
