An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman P-shaped or Crossbow brooch. The lower part of the bow, foot and the catch plate are the remaining pieces. The bow is rectangular in section, and is wider in profile than front on. The foot widens slightly towards the bottom, although is not complete. There is simple horizontal linear decoration on the front of the foot, and there is remains of silvering all over. There are similar brooches on the database HAMPF38377, IOWB04DA2 and SUR703E85. Hattat identifies these types of brooches as 3rd century (Hattat 1994 p281 no1259). 46.77mm L x 5.42mm W x 3.55mm T. 6.46g weight.
