A fragment of a cast copper alloy vessel of medieval to post-medieval date. The fragment is one leg of a probable cooking vessel, possibly a ewer or skillet. The leg is circular in section and tapers slightly towards the middle from a wide top and wider base. The leg fragment is undecorated but has a ring and dot design on the base of the foot, possibly to enhance grip.
The metal is a dark blackish-brown colour and is slightly worn and pitted. The fragment is 43.2mm long, 12.9mm in diameter at the widest point, 9.3mm at the narrowest point and weighs 31.8g.
While it is not possible to allocate this fragment to a specific type Geake, p.45 suggests a mid 13th to 16th century date for such copper alloy cooking vessels.
