Seven (7) fragments of Roman vessel glass.
Four demonstrate the characteristic blue green colour and trapped air bubbles. The other three fragments are similar to the others in style and thickness but have developed a metallic surface patination indicative of the decomposition of glass, which prevents the confirmation of identification.
Out of the fragments present, there is one (1) rim sherd, one (1) basesherd and the remaining five (5) fragments are bodysherds. Unfortunately it is not possible to identify vessel forms from these fragments.
The fragments vary in thickness from 2.29mm to 7.20mm. In total they weigh 19.8 grams.
The presence of Roman glass fragments can be suggestive of the level of status of a site. Due to the fact that it tended to be recycled in antiquity, roman glass can be a rare find on any site. It was considered to be a more higher status artefact, similar in level to imported Samian ware pottery.
The fragments have been photographed as a group.
