A circular, cast lead alloy button or stud probably dating from the early Post Medieval period. The upper surface is slightly domed and is decorated with four raised lines in the form of a cross radiating from a central, raised pellet. In each of the angles of the cross is a further raised pellet and the whole design is contained within a narrow, raised line running around the button just inside the outer circumference. There are three groups of three smaller raised pellets on the outer rim of the button, one group at the end of each of three arms of the cross. The fourth arm does not seem to have had such a grouping. On the reverse is a central casting rib, from the centre of which projects a truncated rivet or squashed attachment loop. The button has a light brown, almost golden, patina. It is 30.2mm in diameter and 9mm thick. It weighs 25.04gm. Similar objects are BUC-ECF9C5, SF-DF7194, BUC-164C07and SWYOR-AD4A72. A 17th century date is most likely. This is supported by Helen Geake's description of early post-Medieval buttons being cast in one piece.
