A gilded, copper alloy mount in the shape of an acorn. The nut seems to be decorated with opposed scrolls. The cupela is deliminated by a raised transverse ridge and is cross hatched, with a circular indentation in the centre of each lozenge. The stem at the base is forked and bent to the side, probably intentionally. There is a knop at the apex of the nut. The mount is convex on the front, and hollow on the back. It has two integral bent spikes which suggest a 17th century date. There are traces of gilding all over the front. There are many very similar xeamples on the database including IOW-1C5E67, HAMP-1E3284, HAMP-7D4A17, HAMP-885C13, and KENT-9449D5.
