A cast copper alloy trade weight dating to the 18th century. The weight is circular and has a shallow raised rim, plain on the reverse and with four stamped symbols on the face. These symbols are: a sword (for St Paul's, City of London) at 12 o'clock; a now illegible symbol, which would have been a crowned letter G for King George at 3 o'clock; a ewer (for the London Founder's Company) at 6 o'clock; and an A for avoirdupois (the weight system) at 9 o'clock. The location of the stamps indicates that this weight was made during the reigns of King George III (1760-1820) or King George IV (1820-1830).The weight now weighs 25.8gms or 0.91oz - originally the weight would have had the value of one ounce.
