A copper alloy pelta shaped mount probably dating from the Roman period. The mount is semi-circular with a central projection from the centre of the straight side, and further semi-circular indentations on each side of the projection. The edges are slightly bevelled. It has a length of 27.41mm, width 19.40mm, thickness 5.33mm, weight 12.39g. The central projection ends with a patinated break. Both faces are well patinated, but one is slightly rougher which may indicate where it was attached. There is no other evidence of attachment. A similar mount is SWYOR-41B3E1 on the PAS database which draws parallels with ESS-A61324, SUSS-EA12D2 and WILT-6F9C36. These are interpreted as Roman vessel mounts dating from 43 - 400 AD. However, another possibility, though less likely, is that this object is the head from a crescentic linch pin, though the other examples on the database are more decorated (GLO-DB46F7, and WMID2798). If a linch pin, it would date from 300BC - 100AD. It could also be the handle of a Post Medieval barrel tap.
