PLUMB BOB

Unique ID: SWYOR-27EAA4

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A lead alloy probable plumb bob, probably Roman in date. The object has a squashed suspension loop stemming from a circular sectioned shaft. At the base of the shaft is a projecting flange round a domed terminal. It looks similar to Roman bell shaped mounts. There is an example of a Roman Plumb bob in the Catalogue of small finds from South Shields Roman Fort, ref 476, and other examples on the database are KENT-99ABF6 and LVPL811. It is possible that the bob could also be later in date. The casting seam is visible on the flange.
