A copper alloy base of a 14th century seal matrix. The stem, broken just above the seal face, has a sub oval section and the rear 'trumpet' section has been crudely faceted, perhaps post casting. The design consists of a capital letter 'R' with a star and crescent moon at either side within an outer circle. There is a hint of a perimeter legend now lost due to the degradation of the rim. Unusually, there appears to be the remnants of a red sealing wax embedded in the face of the seal.
