A cast copper-alloy catch-piece or anchor-plate from a late medieval or early post-medieval book clasp. The plate is made from a flat rectangular sheet of copper-alloy. There are two rivet holes in the body, one of which retains its copper-alloy rivet. The incomplete end splits into two around a rectangular aperture, and each projection houses a transverse copper-alloy hinge bar.

    considering the size of the rebate and the length of the visible rivet(not apparently long enough to attach anything else) I would suggest that this is a book mount-the corresponding part to the hooked tags more frequently found
