STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: WAW-9BA396

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A possible incomplete cast copper alloy strap fitting. The strap fitting is formed of an incomplete figure of eight loop with a possible third loop at the base, which is only indicated by two broken terminals. The three loops appear to have been cast in one piece. The complete loop has what may be a casting imperfection on the interior edge. The object has an abraded surface. It measures 34.82mm long, 19.43mm wide, 7.03mm thick and weighs 9.1g.

The object is possibly a strap fitting which could be from a belt loop, a personal strap fitting, bridle fitting or non-load bearing harness fitting. It most probably dates to the Late Iron Age or Roman period. A similar object has been recorded on the PAS database; SUSS-472333,IOW-CBDC47 and

LON-C12241.
