Copper alloy, heavily leaded.
Buckle, possibly spur buckle. Cast oval frame with protruding lip, two stepped prongs make up a spacer to engage a separate plate (now lost). A short pin remains wound round pin bar. In London, similar buckles come from contexts dated c.1330-1400; their use for garters and other items is discussed, the type may be distinctively English (Eganand Pritchard 1991, pages 78-82). Suggested date: Medieval, 1330-1400.
Length: 39.83mm, Width (loop): 19.80mm, Thickness: 3.06mm, Weight: 4.03gms.
