An incomplete cast copper alloy seal box lid of Roman date. The lid would once have been circular in plan however nearly half of the rim no longer remains. From one point on the lid a broken circular suspension loop projects. The remaining rim is lipped in order to allow it to fit onto the lower box which no longer remains. The upper surface of the lid is decorated with a plain moulded border the inner edge of which is decorated with a narrow rope design. Within the resulting central field a separately cast rabbit figure has been riveted in place. The rabbit has no further detail than the outline.
The reverse of the lid is undecorated and the rivet holding the rabbit figure in place can be seen in the centre.
The lid is 22.1mm long, 19.4mm wide, 3.2mm thick and weighs 1.7g. The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour and survives in good condition.
