This is a Post Medieval bone handle from an iron folding knife or razor, dating 17th - 18th century. The detail of this knife is obscured by iron corrosion but it appears to comprise two bone plates on either side of the folding knife or razor. The bone plates are decorated with the same pattern which comprises three ridge and grooves extending the length of the plates. There are small diagonal lines cutting regularly into the ridges. It looks like the lines were cut using a tool like a chisel which cut across all three ridges with one punch. The majority of the handle is obscured by iron corrosion and there is a large lump of corrosion concreted to one end. A rectangular piece of leather is also concreted into the corrosion. The leather is probably not associated with the knife or razor. The heads of two iron rivets are visible on plate placed along the central line.
