A cast copper alloy pipe tamper. The upper terminal of the pipe tamper is circular in plan and flat in profile. Integral to the lower edge of the circular disc is a moulded, circular sectioned stem. The diameter of the terminal which tamps the tobacco is 7.12mm. The condition of the metalwork is poor with traces of a mid green/grey patina. The pipe tamper measures 59.19mm long and 16.92mm wide, weighing 9.4g.
The pipe tamper dates to the early Post Medieval period. The small diameter of the stem terminal which is used to tamp the tobacco in the pipe suggests a 17th century date.
