A copper-alloy Roman votive model of an eye. It is cast as a pointed oval measuring 33mm wide and 19mm long. There are oblique notches around the outer edge, a pronounced rib around the convex central pointed oval which has an incised circle representing the pupil. There are occasional small voids and uneven hollows on the reverse resulting from casting. The object weighs 14.13g. Votive objects such as this would have been offered at shrines or other religious sites in anticipation of, or gratitude for, the healing of a damaged or diseased limb or organ.
