Cast copper-alloy and cloisonné enamelled Early Medieval brooch, dating to the 10-11th centuries.

It is circular in plan with 12 small circular kops around the edge, some of these are broken or missing complete. Four of these knops would have been slightly larger (two still remain) and have small circular blue glass insets. In between each of these larger knops, are two smaller knops which appearto be decorated with a central raised boss.

The brooch is decorated on the front with inset enamel. It has a thin border of red with the main field being a dark blue. In the centre is a four petalled flower with long petals. The petals are infilled with light blue enamel and have a metal border, the centre of the flower is a red dot.

On the reverse the remains of the catchplate and pin mechanism can be seen although they are incomplete and the pin is missing. The patina is a drak brown but it is uneven and green patches can be seen at the broken edges.

Class: cloisonné enamelled (Weetch Type 20)
