A Post Medieval lead alloy incomplete cloth seal dating to 1650. This is a two disc cloth seal with one side reading "[W]ORST/E[]DREF/[O]RMED/[1]650). Only a fragment remains of the other side and that reads "[-]XV[-]".
Seals for Norfolk worsteds had two discs. In the second half of the 17th century seals were applied to both ends of the textile, one stamped with "Norwich" and the initials of the annually-elected wardens of the worsted weavers' guild and the other with "worsted reformed" and the length in yards (Egan 1992, 3).
Dimensions: length: 21.59mm; width: 18.63mm; thickness: 2.71mm; weight: 2.95g.
