A Medieval to Post Medieval unifaced lead alloy token, AD 1200-1700. The unifaced lead alloy token has been cast with a raised geometric design on the obverse and an undecorated reverse. The geometric design is cruciform, with a central cross bordered in each angle by a further pair of right-angles, diminishing as they move away from the centre, in order to fit inside the circular flan. The token has a uniform dark grey patina.
Lead alloy tokens were used for a number of purposes during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods, and cast by both large and small industries. They are therefore very difficult to date, but those with initials are thought to date to the Post Medieval period.
