This is a post medieval copper alloy type ‘V’ buckle from the end of the 17th century (1690-1720). The buckle is an oblong form with raised rib decoration around the inner circumference of the top surface, with a pair of ridges for the pin rest at each end. The buckle still retains the loop chape with a single spike tongue and is typical of a shoe buckle of the period.
The buckle is heavily corroded with a mottled green/brown patina.
