A cast copper alloy domed strap fitting, dating to AD 1250-1400, according to references in Dress Accessories and Brian Read's Metal Artefacts of Antiquity (page 23).
The central dome is oval with a hollow reverse and horizontal and vertical lines etched across the top surface in a central band. Now missing are two protrusions, one on either side, with a central hole for a rivet to fix it onto the leather strap. These are decorative items rather than functional, although their presence would have acted to stiffen the strap.
