An incomplete cast copper-alloy spacer from a composite strap end of Medieval date. It comrpsies a flat rectangular plate with openwork decoration and a decorative terminal knop. At the top of the spacer is a central circular rivet hole with the remains of a copper-alloy rivet. Beneath this is an openwok panel consisting of a large rectangular aperture that has a trefoil-shaped motif at its base and the remains of additional decoration pendant from the top, possibly a stem with acorn or similar motif. A second circular rivet hole is visible beneath teh rectangular aperture, where the sides have semi-circular constrictions. The terminal knop has a short rectangular neck followed by an acorn shaped motif with central circular aperture containing the corroded remains of a rivet and possibly parts of the now missing front and back plates. The entire object is worn and has traces of pale green corrosive products. It measures 61.30mm in length, 19.44mm in width, 2.24mm in thickness, and weighs 9.80g.
This is a decorative spacer from an incomplete composite strap end of Medieval date. A similar example is noted from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: no. 704), which suggests a 14th century AD date for the current example.
