A complete cast copper alloy double looped sub-oval buckle. The buckle frame, in plan, is a pointed oval, with the apex of the loops forming a triangle. The strap bar is narrowed and oval in section. The terminal of the strap bar has moulded decoration but the form is uncertain due to abrasion. The reverse of the frame is flat and undecorated except for a trace of gilding. The pin is missing. The surface of the frame is abraded, and one loop has a slightly break due to corrosion. The buckle measures 35.32mm long and 20.19mm wide across the complete loop. It weighs 3g.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead (Whitehead, R. 1996 Buckles 1250-1800 Greenlight Publishing), Nos. 365 which is dated to the mid 16th to mid 17th century.
