Copper alloy Colchester brooch. Nine-coil spring and prominent forward hook at crest of a narrow bow tapering to the stub of a pierced catch-plate. A stubby pair of wings with fluted decoration partially masks the spring, though the decoration itself reflects the appearance of the coiled spring. A complete pin of round section is drawn from the spring, and is now bent. Suggested date: Late Iron Age to early Roman, 25-80 AD. Length: 76.31mm, Width: 32.10mm,Thickness (at crest of bow): 6.3mm, Weight: 21.55g.

Donald Mackreth kindly corrects this record as follows: 'Not only is there no such thing as a two-piece Colchester, this is patently an ordinary Colchester as the two stalks for the forward-facing hook and the lower one for the spring are clearly visible'.
