Copper alloy
Cast cauldron leg. Moulded as a solid concavo-convex combination of three ribs, with a collar moulding dividing leg from foot, which resembles the paw of a beast. The arrangement is less tapered and a little more carefully contrived than is usual for such objects; a cauldron foot modelled as a paw with five pads was dated to 1430 at Trig Lane, London (Egan 1998, no. 460). Broken below attachment to vessel. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1450. One of a group of vessel fragments from the same site and reported together, perhaps a collection intended for recycling.
