Treasure Case 2010 T179
British Museum report:
"Date: 13th - 14th Century

Description:
A silver gilt medieval annular brooch dating from the 13th - 14th century. It is a sexfoil shaped frame with the outside of one lobe narrowed so the pin can be wrapped round it. The pin is also silver gilt and survives complete. It is bevelled and has a collar before the attachment loop. The gilt is pale and some is now missing. The reverse of the brooch is flat and some diagonal file marks can be seen.

Discussion:
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Compare to Treasure Case 2006 T237 (WILT-A1F047) and for a more ornate example, 2008 T745 (YORYM-115744).

Dimensions: Weight: 1.70g
