A complete cast copper-alloy sub-square buckle of Medieval date (c. 1350-c. 1450).

This single-looped buckle is largely convex at the front and is flat at the rear. In plan, the outside edge has two cusps forming a central projecting pin-rest and the sides of the frame are slightly concave. The slightly narrowed straight bar is sub-rectangular in cross-section. At the front, the inner face of each side of the frame is bevelled.

The pin is missing and the bar has a break close to the mid-way point. A patina has not survived and the surface colour is dark reddish brown with some superficial loose light green copper-alloy corrosion products.

27.1 x 27.8 x 2.8mm. Weight: 4.70g.

A similar buckle has been dated c.1350-c. 1450 (Whitehead 1996: 27, ref: 143).
