UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: WILT-A29664

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date, measuring 25.49mm in incomplete length and weighing 7.43g. It consists of a globular terminal 11.44x10.95mm in 'diameter' and roughly 10mm tall. Extending from this is a slightly curving D-shaped in section strip, 5.64x3.30mm at the (old) break.

The object resembles a split strap-end of probable Medieval date (1100-1500), except for the fact that the split end is missing. It seems unlikely this would extend beyond the break. Examples of this type of strap-end can be seen on this database (eg.HAMP-C88A50, SF-264006). Although probably Medieval in date, some are though to be Late Early-Medieval, perhaps as early as the 8th century AD (see for example NMS-A59A63, NMS-F1E456 or NMS-EFA978).
