Post Medieval cast copper alloy 'anchor' shaped chape from a two part buckle. The chape has two broken cylindrical attachments at one side which would have held the spindle of the buckle with a slot for the pin between them. The rest of the chape is flat, narrowing slightly away from the spindle attachments before narrowing more abruptly into a waist from which is curves out to either side forming an 'anchor'. The anchor end has a rounded lobe to either side flanking three projecting knops in the centre of the outer edge (the edge opposite the spindle attachments), the centre knop is larger than the other two. On one side is a makers mark 'IT' within a heart or shield. It is 26.4mm long, 21.4mm wide, 1.3mm thick and weighs 2.14 grams.
Anchor chapes were popular from about 1660 to 1720 AD.
