A small fragment from the rim of what is probably a cast copper alloy clapper bell. There is no decoration or identifying mark, but the outer surface of the bell displays a smooth grey green patina. The rim is thickened and differs from a vessel rim by being more pointed. The grey sheen suggests a high tin content, examples with up to 25% tin are known (Geake 2001). It dates from the Medieval or post medieval period. The rim diameter is about 200mm, so it is probably a church or school bell rather than a handbell. It is 40.8mm long, 32mm wide and 7.1mm thick. It weighs 22.91gm.
