An incomplete and slightly misshapen silver spoon handle of post-Medieval date (c.1670-c. 1720 AD).
The bowl and part of the stem is missing due to a recent break. it is flat on both faces and has a trifid (tri-lobed) terminal. In plan, the sides of the terminal taper and narrow towards the stem with sides that become almost parallel and then start to flare slightly towards the break. Each side of the stem and terminal has similar incised decoration
Commencing at the top, the decoration consists of the following elements:
A double-lined pointed oval motif at the terminal end with flourishes around/a lozenge containing cross-hatching/a stylised human figure with head facing forwards/other unintelligible marks.
This decoration on both sides is contained within a narrow groove forming a border and following the outline of the terminal and stem.
69.8 x 13.4 x 1.2mm. Weight: 5.05g.
Judy Rudoe of the British Museum has commented that the spoon is not earlier enough to be Treasure.
